Pastor's Corner June 2010
  By:  Pastor Greg Atkinson

June is a time when many families Begin.  There are lots of "Wedding Days" in June as well as July and August.  We also celebrated "Mother's Day" last month and we  celebrate "Father's Day" this month.  As a husband, father and pastor -- I realize how important family is and foundationally how important Mom & Dad and their Marriage is to each of our lives.  It is worth our utmost attention in shaping the environment we grow up in both at home and as a "church!"

So to encourage healthy growth in each of our lives, our families and our church I share the following Steps to give attention toward growing in our marriage relationships - which impacts all those around us!

1

Make a commitment to stay together and to be faithful

When you determine to stay together and be faithful to each other, you are less likely to drift into thinking, Maybe separation or unfaithfulness would be better than what we've got now.

2

Pray and Worship.

Families that pray together do stay together-that's more than a slogan.  Likewise, those who worship together regularly are often more happily married than those who don't.

3

Communicate, even when you don't feel like it -especially when you don't feel like it.

Communication involves taking the time to listen, even when taking time is not convenient.

4

Practice Forgiveness.

A good marriage has been described as the union of two "awfully good forgivers."

5

Help one another, and bear each other's burdens.

Marriage is a partnership, and good partners help each other.  Whatever you think, be ready to lend a helping hand when your spouse needs it,  even if that normally isn't your job!

6

Take Time Away.

We all need time to get away from the pressures of life.  Sometimes couples need rest and rejuvenating time together, away from the kids.

7

Fight the tendency to drift apart.

Couples often drift apart without anybody noticing.  We get busy with our individual activities and forget to keep our spouses involved.
